Concerts are free of charge and take place at the Spreckels Temple of Music in the Music Concourse in Golden Gate Park.

Regular Sunday concerts start at 1:00 p.m. and usually end between 2:30 and 2:45. There is no intermission. For detailed program information please go to the calendar entry for each concert.

All concerts that feature music of specific nationalities or cultures include costumed guest performers, dancers, singers, and speakers who will enlighten and entertain.

2024/142nd Season Performances, Themes, and Selected Repertoire

All themes and repertoire are subject to change; all concerts start at 1:00 pm and are on Sundays except July 4 and Labor Day.

  • April 28,2024 – 142nd Season Opener – Music Director Dr Craig McKenzie leads the band in a rousing program featuring The Pines of Rome, Gustav Holst 2nd Suite in F and more.
  • May 5 – Polish Culture Day – Associate Music Director Dr German Gonzalez conducts works of Weinberger, Chopin, plus song and dance from the Lowiczanie Polish Folk Ensemble of San Francisco
  • May 12 – Mother’s Day – Craig McKenzie leads a program in honor of Mothers everywhere.
  • May 19 – Dr German Gonzalez leads “Bay to Breakers and Forces of Nature” La Forza Del Destino by Verdi, March of the Belgian Paratroopers and much more..
  • May 26 – Armenian Culture Day in partnership with the Hamazkayin Armenian Cultural and Educational Assoc. Craig McKenzie conducts works by Armenian composers, including the Arutiunian Trumpet Concerto featuring principal trumpet Mark Nemoyten
  • June 2 – Trumpet Pallouza – German Gonzalez leads a concert featuring our amazing trumpet section!
  • June 9 – Craig McKenzie conducts a diverse program including the Shostakovich Festive Overture, part of our annual 2-day Golden Gate Park Band Festival with guest ensembles from around the Bay Area and beyond.
  • June 16 – Father’s Day / Juneteenth – Featuring Music of African American Composers and Artists
  • June 23 – German Gonzalez leads a program of “Songs & Dances” including works of Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, Sir Arthur Sullivan and Morton Gould
  • June 30 – German Gonzalez leads GGPB annual Pride Concert program TBA

  • July 7 – German Gonzalez leads Treasures of the Band World” including Suite of Old American Dances by Bennett, Variations on America by Ives, First Suite in Eb by Holst
  • July 14 – Craig McKenzie leads “Disney Magic: Band Fantastic” including music from Encanto, Frozen, Moana, Mary Poppins and much more!
  • July 21 – German Gonzalez leads “Something Old, New, Borrowed, and Blue” including works of Sousa, Leroy Anderson, Claude Bolling and more…
  • July 28 – Craig McKenzie conducts “Tune Town” – Music for Kids of all ages; Variations on Pop Goes the Weasel by Lucien Callet, Barnum & Bailey’s Favorite by Karl King, music from The Wizard of Oz and more
  • August 4 – German Gonzalez leads A concert in honor of Neighborhood Emergency Response Teams and First Responders including works of The Beatles, Gershwin, Frank Erickson and more…
  • August 11 – Craig McKenzie in a Kilt! “Kilts, Ceilidhs, Castles, & Haggis” – Music of Scotland with the Dunsmuir Scottish Dancers,
  • August 18 – Hungarian Culture Day – With performers from the Hungarian Heritage Foundation,
    the band will play favorite Hungarian pieces lead by Dr German Gonzalez.
  • August 25 – German Gonzalez leads a program in Solidarity with Ukraine featuring many guest performers from the Bay Area Ukranian community and beyond.
  • September 1Big Band Day – includes Big Band jazz classics from the swing era and beyond lead by German Gonzalez. Dancers welcome!
  • September 2 Labor Day (Mon.) – Winds of Work, a Labor Day Celebration conducted by Craig McKenzie
  • September 8Mexican Culture Day German Gonzalez conducts with guests Ballet Folklorico Mexicano de Carlos Moreno .
  • September 15 – Craig McKenzie leads:  The Emerald Isle in partnership with the United Irish Cultural Center of San Francisco
  • September 22Spanish Culture Day lead by German Gonzalez featuring  guest performers from Toque Tercero Flamenco lead by Damien Alvarez
  • September 29no GGPB concert
  • October 6 – Craig McKenzie leads our Season Closer “Sounds from the Screen: Music of Film and TV” including music from John Williams, Henry Mancini and other famous film composers

Concerts are approximately 70 to 90 minutes in length.   Programs subject to change. Check back often for updates.
